Shopify Setup Guide

Add an AI-powered chat widget to your Shopify store in under 5 minutes. No coding required.

Step 1: Install the App

  1. Visit the WebDialogAI app on the Shopify App Store
  2. Click Add app
  3. Review the permissions and click Install app

The app needs access to read your products (for AI product recommendations) and orders (for order tracking).

Step 2: Enable the Widget on Your Theme

After installation, you need to turn on the chat widget in your theme:

  1. In Shopify Admin, go to Online Store > Themes
  2. Click Customize on your active theme
  3. In the theme editor, click App embeds (the puzzle piece icon in the left sidebar)
  4. Find WebDialogAI Chat and toggle it on
  5. Click Save

The chat bubble will now appear on every page of your store.

Step 3: Train the AI on Your Store

The AI needs to learn about your store before it can answer questions accurately:

  1. Open the WebDialogAI app from your Shopify Admin
  2. Click the Train AI on Your Store button
  3. Wait a few minutes for the crawl to complete

The AI will read your store pages — including your About page, shipping policy, return policy, FAQ, and product descriptions — so it can answer customer questions accurately.

Re-train after major changes

If you update your policies, add a new FAQ page, or make other significant content changes, click Train AI on Your Store again to refresh the AI's knowledge.

Step 4: Customize the Widget

From the App Page

Open the WebDialogAI app in Shopify Admin to configure:

  • Widget Color — pick a color that matches your brand
  • Widget Position — bottom-right or bottom-left
  • Widget Title — the header text visitors see
  • Greeting Message — the welcome message when visitors open the chat

From the Theme Editor

You can also set the widget color directly in your theme:

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize
  2. Click App embeds (puzzle piece icon)
  3. Click on WebDialogAI Chat to expand settings
  4. Set Widget color override to match your theme
  5. Choose Widget position
  6. Click Save
Color priority

The color set in the Theme Editor takes priority over the color set in the app. This ensures the widget always matches your active theme, even if you switch themes.

Step 5: Enable Order Tracking (Optional)

Let customers check their order status directly in the chat:

  1. Open the WebDialogAI app in Shopify Admin
  2. Toggle Order Tracking on
  3. Customers can now ask "Where is my order?" or "Track order #1234"

The AI will ask for the customer's email address, look up their orders from Shopify, and display order status, shipping info, and tracking links.

Step 6: Open the Full Dashboard (Optional)

For advanced settings, analytics, and agent management:

  1. Open the WebDialogAI app in Shopify Admin
  2. Click Open Full Dashboard
  3. You'll be automatically logged in

From the dashboard you can:

  • View all customer conversations
  • Set up your support team with agent accounts
  • Configure business hours and offline messages
  • Add custom Q&A pairs to the knowledge base
  • View analytics on conversation volume, resolution rates, and knowledge gaps
  • Set up email notifications for new conversations

FAQ

The widget isn't showing on my store

  1. Make sure the app embed is enabled in your theme (Step 2 above)
  2. Check that you're viewing the actual storefront, not the password page (dev stores are password-protected by default)
  3. Try clearing your browser cache or opening in an incognito window

The AI doesn't know about my store

Click Train AI on Your Store in the app. The AI needs to crawl your site before it can answer questions. This takes 2-5 minutes depending on your store size.

Can I use this on multiple themes?

Yes. The app embed setting is per-theme. When you switch themes, go to the new theme's Customize > App embeds and enable WebDialogAI Chat.

How do I uninstall?

Go to Settings > Apps and sales channels in Shopify Admin, find WebDialogAI, and click Remove app. All your data will be deleted.

Does it work with Shopify Plus?

Yes. WebDialogAI works with all Shopify plans.
